Co-Housing Community

This co-housing community in West Acton, MA, is based on the Scandinavian model of landscaped pedestrian-oriented neighborhoods. Its 24 homes are arranged along a pedestrian network in one-, two-, and three-unit buildings. Parking is kept to one side of the site. Configuration of structures creates a neighborhood-within-a-neighborhood. Design and construction included a high level of owner participation and planning. The project was undertaken and co-designed through our former partnership, Amacher Quinn Inc.. Each house is complete with standard features, but most of the plans are arranged to have kitchens and porches facing the common green area of each neighborhood. More private areas are located to the rear of each house, most of which look out onto conservation land. In the center of the community is a 3,000-SF Common House which is complete with kitchen, dining and social areas. It is used regularly by the residents for group meals and social activities.
